Best of Falla Eloquence C

David Hurwitz

Artistic Quality:

Sound Quality:

Formerly known as Philips 432 829-2, this marvelous disc contains three outstanding performances: Markevitch’s El Amour Brujo, his dazzling Nights in the Gardens of Spain with Clara Haskil’s glittering pianism center-stage, and the wonderfully spiky and pugnacious Puyana/Mackerras account of the Harpsichord Concerto. The remaining items, two colorful excerpts from The Three-Cornered Hat with Benzi and the Paris Opera Orchestra, and Dorati’s splendid Minnesota Interlude and Dance from La vida breve, admirably fill out a truly essential Falla collection. At budget price, with good sound, this should be a no-brainer.
