SPANISH PIANO MUSIC VOLUME 1

Any pianist who aspires to tackle the formidable challanges sprinkled throughout Granados’ Goyescas or Albéniz’s Iberia suites invariably faces comparison with Alicia de Larrocha. Not only does Martin Jones distinguish himself in this music plus sundry short works by these Spanish masters, he makes the music his own. He brings a sense of orchestral continuity to the knotty textures, navigating the melodic argument like a seasoned yachtsman in the middle of an atmospheric yet potentially dangerous storm. Nimbus’ soft-edged sonics, if not for all tastes, befit the repertoire. At bargain price, this collection is a steal.
