Jerry Goldsmith: TV & Film music

Another marvelous multichannel production from Telarc, this selection of music by the greatest living composer for film and television is self recommending. If I have any criticism at all, I might say that I’ve heard slightly more compelling arrangements of the Star Trek theme, but really that’s quibbling. The music is marvelous: check out The Boys from Brazil, The Russia House, or the MacArthur/Patton medley. There’s also an impressive selection of television tunes (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Barnaby Jones, The Waltons, Room 222, Dr. Kildare, Star Trek: Voyager) that reminds us just how long and distinguished Goldsmith’s career has been. It goes without saying that the performances, under the composer, will be marvelous, and best of all Telarc’s discrete surround sonics are the ultimate in vividness and brilliance.
