The Bottom Line: This new Beethoven concerto cycle on Alpha looks like it’s going to be one of the major events of the Beethoven year. In tandem with Andrew Manze’s able leadership of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, here are superb performances that offer sympathetic musicianship leavened by an intelligent awareness of period performance practice–the best of the old and the new.
