Boston Baroque Launches New Electronic Media Platform

ClassicsToday

Boston, MA–As Boston Baroque enters its 41st season, there is exciting news to announce!  Aiming to make its live performances and recordings accessible worldwide to millions of listeners, build new audiences, and increase brand awareness and visibility, Boston Baroque is launching a New Electronic Media Platform, using the latest in electronic media technology.

The excitement began on Tuesday, November 4 with the launch of Boston Baroque Radio, the organization’s new 24-7 internet radio station.

In addition, Boston Baroque will live stream each concert for free this season from Jordan Hall and Sanders Theatre. The concerts will be recorded live for later paid digital audio and video download in partnership with Naxos of America. This will not only broaden the organization’s reach outside of the concert halls, but also provide a new source of earned revenue for the organization and its exceptional musicians. The first three concerts this season will be broadcast in audio only.  Beginning with Bach’s St. John Passion in February, live-streams will also include video.

To facilitate these efforts, Boston Baroque has entered into an Integrated Media Agreement with the American Federation of Musicians, only the second of its kind for an orchestra in Boston. This agreement will allow the organization to live stream and video-cast, as well as sell live-concert recordings.

An additional Digital Distribution Representation Agreement has been signed with Naxos of America, Inc., to provide digital downloadable purchases of Boston Baroque’s live-concert recordings. Naxos is the #1 independent classical music distributor in the United States and Canada, specializing in state-of-the-art physical and digital distribution services, marketing and promotion. Celebrating 25 years in 2012, Naxos has evolved from its beginnings as a budget label to a leading classical music force. Naxos of America continues to grow as an innovative, forward-thinking organization ensuring continued success in the ever-changing music industry environment.

Boston Baroque’s Executive Director Miguel Rodriguez stated: “This has been a great collaborative process between the Boston Baroque orchestra members, the American Federation of Musicians, Naxos of America, and the team at Streamguys.com. We have been driven by our mutual desire to build new audiences for classical music while reaching tens of thousands worldwide, and at the same time creating new sources of revenue for the organization and the musicians. Everybody wins!”

Linn Records will remain Boston Baroque’s official record label for its studio recordings.
