About the Award
The Cannes Classical Awards was established
six years ago, organized by the chairman in cooperation with
several premiere international music magazines. The purpose
of the award is to recognize the universal appeal of classical
music in creating a truly international recording award, one
in which the typical bias and local preferences common to
these events are effectively counter-balanced by the multinational
make-up of the jury. Each year several hundred critics from
seven countries (Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the
United States, and the U.K.) take part in the voting in approximately
28 different categories, while special awards such as those
for Lifetime Achievement are selected by the chairman and
the editors of the participating magazines. The Award Ceremony
itself takes place in January at the MIDEM international music
convention in Cannes, France. Winners are published by the
participants in their first issues after the ceremony.
